I love the Upstairs at the Gatehouse Theatre, and always marvel at their ability to bring West End productions to such a tiny space. The production of Guys and Dolls was on par with an earlier Broadway production that was fantastic and Kiss Me Kate was even better than the recent West End Production. So I’m not surprised to read the good reviews on the Blonde Bombshells of 1943.
From the Gatehouse “It’s 1943 and Betty’s female swing band urgently needs new recruts after losing them to the amorous attentions of nylon tooting GIs. Inspired by Ivy Benson’s all girl dance band. Adapted from the television film Last of the Blonde Bombshells. Featuring songs from Glenn Miller, Fats Waller and the Andrews Sisters including Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree, Tuxedo Junction and T’aint What Cha Do (it’s the way that you do it).
