For one night only acclaimed actress of stage and screen Dame Diana Rigg DBE will talk about her book, No Turn Unstoned , a collection of “the worst theatrical reviews in history”. First published in 1982, her bestselling collection of vicious – but screamingly funny – reviews by theatre critics has long been a theatrical cult favourite.
Following an uncouth comment about her nude scene in Abelard and Heloise by critic John Simon, Dame Diana was inspired to write No Turn Unstoned. She wrote to her many friends and acquaintances in the theatre and film industries, asking them to share their worst-ever reviews. She also researched theatre criticism and surviving comments from as far back as Ancient Greece. The result is a both scholarly and hugely entertaining look at the theatre throughout history – and, above all, a celebration of the actors who survive and carry on, despite it all.
Her talk will be followed by a questions and answers session, in the uniquely intimate surroundings of the Finborough Theatre. All of the proceeds of the performance will go towards the Finborough Theatre, a registered charity.
