Gruesome Playground Injuries at the Gate Theatre, Notting Hill Jan 22-Feb 16th

Photo: Jason Fernie  I haven’t visited the Gate for a while and the upcoming play, Gruesome Playground Injuries, sounds interesting to me.  This is the European Premier of Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph’s play which was originally staged in 2009 at the Alley Theatre in Texas starring American actors Selma Blair and Brad Fleischer.

According to the Gate website:

“When Kayleen and Doug meet in the nurse’s office of their elementary school aged 8, she can’t stop being sick and he’s pedalled his bike off the roof.  Over the course of the next 30 years an intensely unusual love story develops that is as delicate and raw as its protagonists.  Passionate, infuriating, heartwarming and heartbreaking; their own destructiveness continues to force them apart, only to be drawn together again. And again.    This hilarious and dark tale, racing back and forth in time throughout the lives of two unique characters and the twisted relationship that defines them.”
