Charles Dickens’ Sikes and Nancy, October 8th at the Tristan Bates Theatre

For those of you who read Claire Tomalin‘s excellent biography of Charles Dickens, you’ll know that Dickens drove himself to exhaustion traveling around the world performing a reading that reenacted  Sikes’s brutal murder of the prostitute Nancy in Oliver Twist.  Apparently he got rather enthusiastic about portraying the fiendish Sikes.

According to the Tristan Bates theatre , where a reading will be performed on October 8th, ‘Sikes and Nancy’ shocked the world and hastened its author’s early death.

‘A fantastic performance’-Varsity★★★★★; ‘Engaging and captivating’ – TCS ★★★★★.
