The Ashmolean Museum in Oxford has a vast, world-renowned Ancient Egyptian collection (40,000 artifacts collected over 300 years from over 100 archaeological sites) with many objects previously in storage for almost a century. The new Egyptian galleries opened yesterday and have on display more than double the number of mummies and coffins previously on display. The Ashmolean itself is an antiquity–opened 300-year ago and was well worth seeing even before this important new gallery opened.
