My mother mentioned this short documentary to me and I just had a chance to watch it. Since I live abroad I’m often horrified about how America is viewed by the rest of the world:
It’s the rare piece of media or art that makes me feel good about it.
Take a few minutes and watch Boatlift. Very moving especially if, like myself, you were in NYC on 9/11. Tom Hanks narrates the epic story of the 9/11 boatlift that evacuated 500,000 from the stricken piers and seawalls of Lower Manhattan. This evacuation in only 9 hours, was one of the largest and fastest in history- far fewer (300,000) were evacuated from Dunkirk.
