From the Barbican site: “An unprecedented celebration of the African roots in music and culture, the acclaimed Back2Black Festival travels from Rio de Janeiro to London this summer.
Three days of live music with an eclectic line up of over twenty African, Brazilian & international artists across 3 stages, including host Gilberto Gil. Taking place in the stunning riverside location of Old Billingsgate Market in central London, transformed for the occasion by Brazilian visual artist Miguel Rio Branco.
More than just music is on offer during the Festival. Alongside a heady mix of funk, reggae, dub, hip hop, samba and blues, Back2Black features a programme of talks and debates with leading international writers, thinkers and musicians.
Plus drumming displays and workshops involving young musicians from East London and the Pracatum School from Salvador de Bahia, craft market and a range of African & Brazilian street food and drinks available throughout the three days.”
